The daily benefits of entrepreneurship are not without their challenges. Being masters of juggling many different jobs at once can often mean we don’t take the time to look after the most important part of a business – ourselves.
StartUp Creative recently talked to Jodie Paul – founder of Age Less and Mind Full – about her approach to ageing and living mindfully in a busy world. Jodie, whose business was born out of her own journey to live a simpler life, says the key to success is balance.
What are your tips for balancing life while running a business?
Balance is key. You have to make time for yourself throughout the day and take breaks. Leave the phone at home and go outside and walk. This will rejuvenate you and make you refreshed to complete those business tasks you’ve been delaying doing.
What would you say the biggest stress factors in life are?
I think the need to have it all: the career, the big salary, the house, the car, the holidays. We put so much pressure on ourselves to have the external signs of success, that our internal and personal life suffer big time.
What are your top anti-ageing tips?
- 7- 8 hours’ sleep
- Exercise 30 minutes every day
- 3 x 3 deep breaths
- Drink 2-3 litres of water per day
- Eat only wholefood
- Meditate 10 minutes every day
- Be kind.
- Laugh lots
How do you overcome stress?
I get out in nature and walk. Nature has a beautiful way to soothe me.
Who is your motivation?
I’m self-motivated. I’m a very curious person and I’m intrigued by the human body and how it can heal itself given the right food, environment and thoughts. We are capable of amazing things.
You talk about the voice in our heads that can damage our self-belief, what is the best way to tackle that?
Change your thoughts. Easy to say but some people find this difficult to do. Our thoughts aren’t real, they’re not a tangible thing that we can touch and feel. Being conscious that we’re even thinking a destructive thought is the first step and meditation is the next and just allowing the thought to pass. Don’t give it the attention it desires. Breathe deeply and let it go.
